Hi there, Maggie Shaw here, proud owner of Eregendal and author.
I wanted to share with you my brand-new feature, “Maggie’s Book of the Month”!
As you can imagine, I’ve been interested in reading since a young age and have had the pleasure of reading lots of fascinating novels from varying genres and authors.
Each month I’ll be choosing one of my favourites and telling you all about it!
For February’s Book of the Month, I have chosen The Weirdstone of Brisingamen by Alan Garner (1960, 50th Anniversary Edition 2010). This book fired my imagination as a child and inspired me to believe that I could write fantasy too. I love the way Garner weaves his tales around local folklore, which gives a strong foundation to his work.
Most of my own novels are firmly situated in place, although not all the stories name them directly. For instance, the journey Sarah Baylis takes in my novel The Vision and Beyond describes real roads and places, seen through the lens of the events described in the story. I’d love for you to read both The Weirdstone of Brisingamen and The Vision and Beyond and let me know your thoughts!
So there you have it, my top pick for February.
